Here are the top stories today in Indianapolis:
- On Saturday, residents can dispose of smaller unwanted electronics during The Indianapolis Zoo's Power Recycling Day. Batteries, computers, video games, cell phones, tablets, and most electronics will be accepted free of charge during the recycling event, although there is a $20 processing fee for televisions and monitors. Guests can drop off their old electronics for proper disposal from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the zooβs parking lot, where staff from Technology Recyclers will be onsite to assist with unloading. (WFYI)
- The Riley Maternity Tower at Riley Hospital for Children has opened, becoming the largest NICU in Indiana. The tower boasts 116 beds, which makes it the only facility in the state that provides βthe highest level of care for both moms and babies under one roof.β The NICU is intended to provide comprehensive maternity services and improve the experience for mothers and babies, with plans to accommodate nearly 4,000 baby deliveries each year. - No injuries were reported after a double residence home caught on fire on Monday morning in the 1500 block of S. Reisner Street. (Fox 59)
- A jury has convicted an Indianapolis police officer, Officer Robert Lawson, of official misconduct and perjury in connection with an incident in which a student was punched after officers broke up a fight inside a high school. (Indiana Lawyer)
- The Donut Shop, an Indianapolis business known for selling 33 varieties of doughnuts beneath a distinctive orange awning on North Keystone Avenue, has closed permanently following the death of the restaurantβs owner, Romeo Reyes. (Indianapolis Business Journal)
