Here are the top three stories today in Indianapolis:
- The Indianapolis Public Library is asking the public for help in identifying old photographs for digital archives through its history scavenger hunt. Those with knowledge of the city's history are asked to help identify parks that were photographed from the early 1900s up through the 1990s with little or no information attached to them. There are 1,500 photographs and the man behind the camera is Rupert Daily who was a photographer with Indy Parks for 40 years, according to Digital Projects Coordinator Katie Farmer. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
- On Wednesday morning, a fire badly damaged a beauty school located on the south side. Just before 2 a.m., the Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to Empire Beauty School at 3810 E. Southport Road where they found heavy smoke and fire coming from a storage area in the rear of the building. The cause of the fire has not been released, however, investigators believe 60 percent of the building was damaged in the fire. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
- Indianapolis residents should be on the lookout for the first major closure for Purple Line construction, which went into effect today. Traffic on 38th Street in both directions between Fall Creek Parkway at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Orchard Avenue will be affected; however, access to Sutherland Avenue will remain open to local traffic. The closure is expected to last 10 days. (CBS 4 Indianapolis)
