Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:
- A group of orthopedic surgeons in Indianapolis have brought in a robotic arm to assist in knee replacement surgeries. While the Stryker-Mako robotic arm assisted surgery system is in use, itβs also collecting data to improve future surgeries. Over 600,000 people undergo knee replacement surgery every year in the United States. (WTTV CBS4Indy)
- Nine apartments were destroyed after a fire broke out on Thursday morning on the west side of Indianapolis. Speedway, Indianapolis, and Wayne Township firefighters responded to the fire shortly before 2 a.m. in the 400 block of Big Hill Circle, near 10th Street and North Lynhurst Drive. There were no injuries and investigators have not shared how the fire started. (WTHR)
- A 1902 movie that was made in Indianapolis is one of this yearβs class of 25 films added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. Titled βRingling Bros. Parade Film,β this film was released by the Selig Polyscope Company in July 1902, and is the 11th oldest movie in the National Film Registry. The 3-minute film shows a Ringling Bros. circus parade in downtown Indy and features elephants, camels, and caged lions traveling south on Capitol Avenue past the Indiana Statehouse, and traveling east on West Washington Street past the future home of the Indiana Repertory Theatre.
