Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:
- Officials are warning Hoosiers that "there is no safe ice" and to stay off ice on bodies of water. On Sunday night, the Pike Township Fire Department and Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the Eagle Creek Reservoir off of West 56th Street after a passerby called for help because they believed that someone may have fallen through the ice. Although it was determined nobody was in the water, fire officials still want to encourage Hoosiers to heed the warning that you canβt trust any ice in Indiana, especially with the fluctuating temperatures. - A local nonprofit recently received $10,000 for their monthly community dialogue exploring topics around race. Spirit and Place, based in the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, received the award on behalf of the Indianapolis-based Meridian Foundation, as part of the 2021 Arago Honor award given to eight nonprofits. The series of conversations are meant to get people comfortable talking about uncomfortable topics. (WFYI)
- The Eiteljorg Museum has prepared for their reopening in June by revamping their Native American Galleries. The reconstructed galleries are part of the museum's larger Project 2021, a $55 million fundraising campaign that will re-envision galleries and events space. Works spanning more than 170 years will be shown at the galleries, including Hannah Clausβ βwater song: peemitanaahkwahki sakaahkweelo.β (WFYI)
Doing a "Dry January" or just looking for a flavorful alternative to regular cocktails? Here's a suggestion: try a non-alcoholic drink from our partners at Betera. Created by an award-winning chef from natural botanicals, Beteraβs drinks come in 3 flavors β Ginger-Orange, Elderflower-Lime and Rhubarb-Hibiscus. We tried Ginger-Orange, and it was excellent β lightly effervescent, floral with a hint of bitterness and the sippability of a cocktail.
