- The West Lafayette Go Greener Commission has presented a report on microplastic pollution in wastewater to the city council, suggesting investing in newer wastewater technologies, educating residents on microplastics' health impacts, and reducing their production through daily habits. The report highlighted the role of clothing items containing plastic-based fibers like polyester and polyethylene in microplastic pollution and recommended washing clothes less, using cold temperature cycles, and choosing natural fiber clothing. Research showed that wastewater treatment plants globally can mitigate microplastic contamination, with some reducing it by about 90 percent in primary and secondary treatment systems. - "AgDay," the long-running agricultural TV news program, has been filming on Purdue University's West Lafayette campus for a Purdue Agriculture-themed college roadshow. The show will feature a panel with Purdue College of Agriculture professors, covering topics like agricultural markets and emerging protein sources. Various research aspects, including drone imagery in soybean farming and autonomous grain offloading during harvest, will also be highlighted in the show, which is set to air on local and national TV on Sep. 15. - Indiana State Police (ISP) conducted "saturation patrols" in Greater Lafayette over the weekend, resulting in the arrest of 10 drivers for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and five on drug-related charges out of 203 drivers pulled over. Additionally, five individuals were found with suspended or no driver's licenses, while two drivers were arrested for resisting law enforcement and two on warrants. The ISP encourages the use of designated drivers or ride-sharing services to prevent impaired driving. (WLFI)
