• Just how severe has Fort Wayne's winter been so far? More severe than parts of Alaska (wane.com) — Lafayette is one of just three U.S. cities seeing a record-extreme start to winter, according to Purdue’s Accumulated Winter Season Severity Index. While the story centers on Fort Wayne, the data show Lafayette’s cold and snow are far beyond normal so far this season. That means our winter has been harsher than many places you’d expect, including parts of Alaska and the Rockies.
   

• Alleged puppy scam leads to charges against five out-of-state people (yorkdispatch.com) — One of five people charged in an alleged online puppy-sale scam in Pennsylvania is listed as being from Lafayette tying this multi-state case back to our community. Investigators say a York County woman lost $2,800 through Zelle payments while expecting a shih tzu puppy that never arrived, and arrest warrants are now active for all five defendants.
