- Peter Anders, a former physical education teacher with the Tippecanoe School Corporation, has been charged with multiple counts of battery on children under 14 years old. The charges were filed based on an investigation conducted by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department, prompted by allegations made by seven individuals regarding Anders' inappropriate actions towards students while he was employed at Southwestern Middle School. Anders was placed on administrative leave by the school district in October 2022 and resigned during the investigation. He is currently in custody with a $2,000 bond. (Journal & Courier)
- Thousands of local residents were without power over the weekend following severe storms on Friday night into Saturday. According to Duke Energy, over 3,500 people in Tippecanoe County, including 2,500 in the greater Lafayette area, had lost power by Saturday morning due to downed trees and power lines. Though many customers had their power restored throughout the day, assistance was needed from Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky. (WLFI)
- Medics responded to a call at a residence on North 13th Street in Lafayette around 5:45 p.m. on Friday to attend to an unresponsive four-year-old boy. The cause of the boy's injuries is under investigation, and he was transported to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis in critical condition. As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing, as reported by Lafayette police. (Journal & Courier)
