- Angel J. Zanex, a 37-year-old Lafayette resident, has been sentenced to 84 months in prison for his involvement in distributing child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge Philip P. Simon handed down the sentence, which includes five years of supervised release and a requirement to pay $71,000 in restitution to the victims of the charged offense and uncharged crimes. Zanex pleaded guilty to the distribution of child sexual abuse material in a case that involved posting a video online around Dec. 15, 2021, according to court documents. (eNews Park Forest)
- Lafayette's Board of Public Works and Safety has greenlit the launch of bidding notices for a new trail project along Sagamore Parkway and a commissary building at the Columbian Park Zoo. The Sagamore Parkway Trail will stretch from the Wabash River Bridge to Duncan Road, connecting to an existing trail on North 9th Street; bids for the trail open on Oct. 10. The proposed commissary building at the zoo would be built on the south side of the IU Health Arnett Family Farm exhibit, with bids opening on Sep. 26. (Journal & Courier)
- A delegation from Purdue University recently joined sailors on the USS Nimitz for a firsthand experience at sea. The delegation, comprised of three university leaders, pursued this experience to improve educational opportunities for officers and other enlisted personnel. During their Pacific Ocean venture, they witnessed arresting landings, met Navy officers, and observed flight maneuvers, reinforcing Purdue's commitment to military-affiliated students.
