  1. Police in Lafayette are investigating the deaths of a woman and her 5-year-old daughter as a potential murder-suicide. The incident occurred on Jul. 27, with the deceased identified as Tracy Bondurant, 43, and her daughter, Rayleigh Bloyd. Autopsy results revealed that Bondurant's death was ruled a suicide, while her daughter's death was considered a homicide, both resulting from gunshot wounds to the head. Bondurant had faced felony charges of fraud and theft earlier for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from her sister's bank account. The investigation into the deaths is ongoing. (FOX 59)
  2. The Tippecanoe School Corp. and Tipmont have joined forces to provide convenient Wi-Fi access at high school sports facilities and other public areas, enabling attendees to connect their devices during events and gatherings. This initiative, which previously provided free Wi-Fi hotspots at schools during the pandemic, aims to enhance internet access for learning and streamline educational operations. According to Tipmont CEO Ron Holcomb, connectivity is a fundamental aspect of modern life. (wlfi.com)
  3. A Lafayette City Council meeting faced a halt due to a misunderstanding when a petitioner mentioned a "solid waste transfer facility." The petitioner attempted to rezone a parcel of land for building the facility, but council members were surprised by the purpose of the proposal. Confusion ensued over the nature of the project, leading to the issue being tabled until a future meeting. It was revealed that the project was related to a previously discussed waste transfer station. Additionally, the council approved various ordinances related to police department positions, rezoning requests for businesses, and the reauthorization of a stormwater service charge.
