- On Monday, the state Supreme Court denied a request from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Planned Parenthood to rehear a case about the future of abortion, confirming that a near-total abortion ban is now in effect across the state. The two groups asked for a rehearing of the abortion ban that Gov. Eric Holcomb signed at the end of 2022, to clarify exemptions in the law related to an exemption to the life of the mother. Following the Indiana Supreme Court's denial of the request, the ACLU of Indiana Executive Director Jane Henegar called it a "dark day" in the state's history. (Journal & Courier)
- The Indiana State Police announced on Monday that they are investigating an inmate death at the Tippecanoe County Jail that occurred on Sunday. Jail staff found the inmate unresponsive in the shower suffering from an apparent self-inflicted injury. Police stated they did not find any signs of foul play; however, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. (wane.com)
- The second "Simpson Skates" event was held this past Sunday, in an effort to bring a public skate park to Greater Lafayette. Skaters took over the Crosser Sports Complex parking lot to compete in an advanced and beginners tournament and a best trick contest, all sponsored by local businesses. The event's organizer, local music teacher Greg Simpson, said he has been in continued conversation with the Lafayette Parks Department about opening public place to skate — a dream that could become a reality within the next two years.
