Boiler repairs at Karl King Tower restore partial heat after boiler system failure (wsbt.com) — Residents at Karl King Towers in South Bend finally have partial heat again after a boiler system failure left the high-rise relying on portable heaters. Two of 12 boilers are now working, and federal housing officials say temperatures are currently comfortable while they monitor repairs and consider a full system replacement to protect tenants’ health and safety.
   

2. Food insecurity rate jumps to 16% in November (nationalhogfarmer.com) — South Bend readers should know that national food insecurity jumped sharply to 16% in November, with SNAP households hit especially hard during the recent federal shutdown. Purdue researchers found more people turning to food banks and reported lower diet quality among SNAP users, while a related item notes the South Bend Cubs partnering with Indiana Pork to help provide protein to families in need.
   

3. Epson Tour releases 2026 schedule with 19 events (usatoday.com) — South Bend golf fans will see the Four Winds Invitational return to Blackthorn Golf Club in 2026, marking the event’s 15th edition and first time back since 2020. The tournament is part of a 19-stop Epson Tour schedule that shuffles venues, prize money, and adds new events nationwide.
   

4. Governor Braun talks redistricting ahead of State Senate vote (wsbt.com) — Governor Mike Braun is visiting South Bend while pushing a controversial redistricting plan that aims to create a 9–0 Republican congressional map before next year’s midterms. Speaking sharply about Democrats’ objections, he also hints he may still back challengers to legislators who oppose the bill, which faces a key State Senate vote this week.
