Call Dibs on Those Parking Spaces, the Students Return: What's Happening This Week in Iowa City
ALSO: Mercer Park Pool closing at the end of the week, and school board filing deadline on Thursday.

Here are five things to watch out for, learn about, or do for fun this week in Iowa City.
Did I miss anything good? Let everyone know about it in the comments below!1. Last Chance to Swim at Mercer Park Pool Before it Closes on Aug. 3
The Mercer Park Pool and Spa Area will be closed from Aug. 3 - Aug. 31 for minor cleaning and repair work. An additional swim day will be added for the downtown pool at the Robert A. Lee recreation center, but for people on that side of town the time (with less driving) is now.
More on the change here: Mercer Park Pool Closed August 3-31, Temporary Sunday Swim Added At Robert A. Lee Pool
2. Filing Deadline for the Iowa City School Board is Aug. 1 at 5:00 p.m.
Three spots are available to fill on the school board for this go around with the election coming up in September. Several candidates have already declared their candidacy and you can read about many of them here.
3. The Steel Wheels perform at The Mill

From the Iowa City Shows Website:
The Steel Wheels have enthralled audiences across the country with their heady brew of original soulful mountain music. Based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, this dynamic band marries old-time musical traditions with their own innovative sound. Trent Wagler’s weathered tenor is joined by bell-clear four-part harmonies inspired by a shared Mennonite heritage. Add to this Eric Brubaker’s lively and evocative fiddle, Brian Dickel’s grounded yet buoyant upright bass, and Jay Lapp’s signature mandolin style, and it’s no surprise that The Steel Wheels have burst onto the Americana scene, becoming festival favorites and selling out venues across the country. “Americana music at its very best!”
4. You may have noticed, but it's Aug. 1 this week, and that means the college students should start arriving this week. (cue dramatic music)
Remember that nice relaxing summer you enjoyed with no fighting for parting but also a boring lack of youthful vigor? Well both those things will start to go away this week as students return to the city to claim their apartments.
