City High Little Hawk Newspaper Finalist for Pacemaker National Award
The Little Hawk's journalists also garnered award for individual excellence.

City High School’s Little Hawk Newspaper has
received notice this week of three different prestigious awards.
• The Little Hawk has been named as finalist in the 2013 National
Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) Newspaper Pacemaker contest. This award recognizes excellence in scholastic newspapers, honored in the
category of Newspaper Broadsheet, 17 or more pages. The award is given
annual and is considered to be the among the highest national honors.
The Little Hawk has received Pacemaker 12 other Pacemaker awards in
previous years.
• The NSPA  has released finalists for photography, design and cartooning. The Little Hawk received four finalist awards: sports photography - Ryan Young; environmental photography - Kierra Zapf; magazine cover design - Jason Arnold and Nora Holman; and infographic design - Renata Stewart.
The awards will be presented at the national journalism conference in
Boston on Nov. 16.
• The Little Hawk also received the George H. Gallup Award, granted by
the Quill Scroll Honorary Society for High School Journalists. This is
the highest distinction, granted based on evaluation of high school
news service.
City High students Cassie Wassink and Renata Stewart are co-editors,
and Jonathan Rogers is the adviser.
