1. Cycling Without Age reduces social isolation and improves physical, mental health for older adults (thegazette.com) — Older adults and residents with limited mobility in Iowa City can now book free trishaw rides through Cycling Without Age, run out of the city-owned Ned Ashton House and supported by the Iowa City Bike Library. Volunteer pilots take passengers along trails, campus, and downtown, aiming to reduce social isolation and boost physical and mental health.
   

2. Greater Iowa City outlines key goals for business growth and livability (kwwl.com) — Greater Iowa City, Inc. has laid out its 2026 priorities, focusing on workforce, business growth, and especially housing availability and affordability in Iowa City and Johnson County. The group plans to advocate with state and federal policymakers and track progress through a public Community Data Dashboard comparing Johnson County to similar counties nationwide.
   

3. University of Iowa considering changes to admission process (1630kcjj.com) — Changes to University of Iowa admissions could soon affect how Iowa City students apply, with officials considering ending rolling admissions and possibly bringing back ACT or SAT requirements. After a record surge in applications, leaders say they may ask the Board of Regents to reinstate testing to better manage enrollment and keep class sizes under control.
   

4. Oxford man accused of violating no contact order while in jail (1630kcjj.com) — Iowa City Police are pursuing a contempt charge after Washington County Jail staff reported that an Oxford man allegedly contacted a protected person from behind bars. The 22-year-old, already facing serious kidnapping and sexual assault charges, is accused of twice violating a no-contact order while jailed, with a jury trial on the earlier charges set for April 7th.
   

5. University of Iowa Center for Intellectual Freedom Director: ‘It's not a political enterprise' (siouxcityjournal.com) — A new Center for Intellectual Freedom based at the University of Iowa is taking shape in Iowa City, with leaders stressing it is not meant to be a partisan project. State and federal education officials joined university and regents representatives at the Old Capitol Building on December 6th to discuss the center’s mission and respond to questions from community members.
