City High to Induct Five Inductees into Hall of Fame in September

Five individuals will be inducted into City High Hal of Fame this fall. All will be inducted on Sept. 26, and will be recognized at the school's homecoming football game on Sept. 27.

Five individuals will be inducted into City High Hal of Fame this fall. All will be inducted on Sept. 26, and will be recognized at the school’s homecoming football game on Sept. 27.

Inductees include Eduardo Macagno, class of 1960, dean of the graduate school at Columbia and the founding dean of the Division of Biological Sciences at University of California, San Diego; Richard Phipps, class of 1940, a member of the current building's first graduating class and author of the lyrics to City High's Alma Mater and Sturdy Little Hawk fight song; Andy Rocca, class of 1977, distinguished service as Iowa City’s longtime fire chief; Bob Shain, class of 1953, pilot of Marine One, the helicopter that transported presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford; and Terry Smothers, class of 1963, longtime outstanding math teacher at City High.
