Iowa's Sales Tax holiday kicked off this morning. No sales tax will be collected on select clothing and footwear Friday Aug. 2 and Saturday Aug. 3.

Than means a savings of up to 7 percent here in Johnson County. The exemption only applies to clothing and shoes that cost less than $100 per item. And some odd rules apply. Shoes without cleats are exempt, shoes with cleats are taxable.

Any store that is open from 12 a.m. Aug. 2 to 12 a.m. Aug. 4 has to participate.
If an item bought on the sales tax holiday is exchanged later the buyer will not have to pay taxes on the new item.
