ICFD: Garage Fire Doused Sunday Afternoon on Governor Street

The fire was extinguished before it spread to the rest of the house.

The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a report of a garage on fire at 619 N. Governor Street at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Upon arrival at the scene, Engine 1 reported smoke and fire coming from an attached garage. ICFD personnel pulled hoselines from Engine 1 and aggressively used water to extinguish the fire in the garage.

The fire was contained to the garage with light smoke entering the living area of the structure. All residents were accounted for and there were no injuries to either citizens or fire department personnel. 

ICFD units on scene included Engine 1, Quint 2, Engine 3, Engine4, Truck 1, and Battalion Chief with a callback of off duty personnel initiated to provide response capabilities in the city during the incident. The Johnson County Ambulance Service provided medical standby for the incident and the Red Cross made contact with the property owner to offer assistance.

ICFD personnel investigated the fire and determined the area of origin to be in the garage with the cause of the fire still undetermined and under investigation.
