Police: Iowa City Daycare Provider Accused of Slapping Child Under Her Care

The daycare provider disputes the allegation that she slapped the child.

The owner of a local daycare has been accused of slapping a child under her care in June.

According to the Iowa City Police, on June 21 at 6:00 p.m. an officer responded to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for the report of a child there with a facial injury reportedly received at the child's daycare, ran by Bessie Louise Pulley, 56, at 711 Sandusky Drive.

As the investigation continued, police say that the evidence allegedly pointed to the child likely receiving the injury while at the daycare. Doctors at UIHC examined the child and said there were no other injuries to the child except for the slap, which had left a clear hand mark from the child's chin to ear.

Police suspected Pulley of the crime, but she declined involvement during a police interview. She also allegedly refused to take a Polygraph test after the interview, according to the complaint.

Pulley was charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, and was booked into the Johnson County Jail early this morning, where she was charged and released.
