An Iowa City man destroyed a Guinness World Record in eye-catching style Saturday.
Luther Bangert, an Iowa City resident and traveling circus juggler, broke the mark for “Most Things Juggled Whilst Sword-Swallowing.”

Bangert juggled five balls with a 21½-inch sword lodged in his throat for 11.72 seconds, smashing the previous record of 6.5 seconds.
Bangert, 27, has sword-swallowed with the traveling Great Bombay Circus, juggled while unicycling on the streets of Paris and played a musical saw in Torino, Italy. Bangert said he’s back in Iowa City on a short hiatus before returning to France for the 36th European Juggling Convention and decided to get the record on the official books before leaving.
