Helen Hunt, William Hurt To Star In Iowa City-Inspired Movie

'The Miracle Season' follows the team's quest to win a volleyball championship after the unexpected death of a star player.

IOWA CITY, IA — A movie that tells the story of the Iowa City West High School volleyball team's embattled season coming off of a state championship year will debut in theaters in April, but the film's trailer was released this week. The movie stars Helen Hunt as Kathy Brenahan, the coach who inspired her team to win after reeling from the loss of player Caroline "Line" Found's death in a moped accident.

William Hurt plays Ernie Found, Line's father, who while dealing with the grief of losing his daughter also lost his wife less than two weeks later after she succumbed to her fight with pancreatic cancer.

The film is one of several recent stories retelling Iowa City West's miracle season and the improbable chance of starting in turmoil and a number of losses to turning around with new focus in a quest for a second consecutive state title.

Caroline Found was an All-State setter in her junior year and the team's equivalent of a quarterback. Plays revolved around her game and she led Iowa City West to a 2010 state championship.

The movie is directed by Sean McNamara, whose previous credits include "Soul Surfer," and was written by David Aaron Cohen ("Friday Night Lights") and Elissa Matsueda.
