Newsweek Report: West High Top High School in Iowa; City High Also Ranked Among Best in USA
The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday. City High and West High both made the list.

Newsweek has ranked two Iowa City high schools among the top 2,000 high schools in the country.
West High was Iowa's top ranked school, placing at No. 327 in the country. City High also faired well, coming in at No. 997.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Iowa City's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above.
This is a nice change of pace after City High and West High both missed the cut off for top high schools in a recent U.S. News and World Report ranking system.

The Newsweek survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweek’s final rankings.
