No Injuries Reported After Firefighters Respond to House Fire on Diana Street

The source of the fire was reportedly the basement of the structure. Firefighters continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The Iowa City Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a report of a basement fire at 1018 Diana Street at 12:20 P.M. on Monday, September 6, 2013. Upon arrival at the scene, Engine 1 reported smoke and fire visible from a window in the basement of the building. ICFD personnel pulled hoselines from Engine 1 and aggressively used water to extinguish the fire in the basement.

The fire was contained to the northeast corner of the basement of the building with light smoke entering the rest of the structure. The house was unoccupied at this time and there were no injuries to either citizens or fire department personnel. 

ICFD units on scene included Engine 1, Quint 2, Engine 3, Engine4, Truck 1, and Battalion Chief with a total of 16 ICFD personnel on scene. The Johnson County Ambulance Service provided medical standby for the incident while the Iowa City Police Department provided traffic control, and MidAmerican Energy provided assistance with securing gas and electric utilities at the scene.
ICFD investigation personnel are currently investigating the fire scene to determine the area of origin and the cause of the fire.
