The city's animal services staff assisted in a large-scale rescue Saturday and now needs bird feed, straw bales and other donations.

IOWA CITY, IA — A large-scale animal welfare investigation in Iowa City on Saturday resulted in the impounding of well over 200 animals. The city's Animal Services staff is now caring for 110 ducks and geese, 76 chickens, and 49 pigeons in foster homes.

Donations are needed to help feed and care for the animals, city officials said. The immediate needed are straw bales, non-medicated poultry food like All Flock or similar brands, and gift cards to farm supply stores such as Thiesen’s Home Farm & Auto or Orscheln Farm and Home.

The rescue was conducted by Iowa City Animal Services and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Details of the impound were not available.
