To Close Hoover or Not?: Five Things About This Week in Iowa City
ALSO: RAGBRAI kicks off!, a fine time to check out the farmers market, the Swans play in Iowa City, and the Johnson County Fair begins.

Here are five things to watch out for, learn about, or do for fun this week in Iowa City.
1. Iowa City School Board Could Vote on Facilities Plan
If you go to Tuesday night's Iowa City School Board meeting expect to see a lot of public commenters there. (School Board Agenda)
The meeting, which starts at 6:00 p.m., will primarily contain discussion about the district's multimillion dollar facilities plan, which the community has been talking about for months. The only real point of disagreement at this point? Whether or not to close Hoover Elementary School.
You may have noticed a lot of "Save Hoover" signs around the neighborhood. Well that's why there will probably be plenty of people willing to speak.
You can read more about that discussion here:Â
Iowa City School Board Leaning Toward Closing Hoover Elementary School?
2. RAGBRAI Begins
So RAGBRAI isn't coming too close to Iowa City this year (as you can see from this map), but there should be plenty of Iowa City representatives on the ride. Included in this is our own Brian Morelli, on his 11th ride. Tune back in to Iowa City Patch for more coverage, and if you happen to be in West Des Moines on Tuesday stop by and say hello to the Patch booth, where I among others will be handing out Patch swag.
3. Tonight, the Swans Invade Iowa City
The Swans are a prominent post punk band from the 1980s and they're still still going strong (read their biography here). On Monday evening they will be playing at the Blue Moose. $20-22 cover. A 19-or-older show that starts at 9:00 p.m.
4. Iowa City Farmers Markets
It's prime produce buying time and Iowa City has plenty to offer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Here are the times and locations:
Parking Lot Near Mercer Park
Tuesday 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Chauncey Swan Ramp
Wednesday 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
