California Man Killed In Plane Crash Near Kansas City

A 51-year-old California man was killed in a fiery crash at Johnson County Executive Airport in Olathe on Sunday.

OLATHE, KS — The pilot killed in a plane crash Sunday at Johnson County Executive Airport on Sunday was identified as a 51-year-old man from California, according to the crash report.

Robert Ming of Laguna Niguel was piloting the aircraft when it crashed and caught fire Sunday morning. The plane was registered to Quadrant Investments in Delaware, and Ming was the only person aboard, according to the report.

The plane was a Piper Malibu Meridian bound for Albuquerque, New Mexico, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware.

Ming worked for Quadrant Law Group in Irvine. He was mayor of Laguna Niguel in 2009 and 2013 and was elected to City Council in 2006 and 2010.
