📰 News we're reading

1. First Salina roundabout moving forward after approval (salina.com) — Salina’s first-ever roundabout is moving ahead at Ninth Street and Water Well Road after a 4-1 city commission vote, despite concerns from local truckers. City leaders cited federal safety data showing big crash reductions, while some residents and trucking interests argued for a traditional traffic light and questioned cost and construction impacts.

2. Wood: Cozy is Complex Issue (ksal.com) — Salina city leaders met in a closed-door session Monday about the costly Cozy Inn vs. City of Salina First Amendment lawsuit but offered no public explanation afterward. City Manager Jacob Wood later discussed the process on local radio, following a federal ruling that the city violated the restaurant owner’s rights by ordering him to stop painting an exterior mural.

3. KBI, Kansas AG investigating July death of 7-week-old infant in Salina (kwch.com) — State investigators are now formally involved in examining the July 23 death of a seven-week-old infant inside a Salina home, following an autopsy reviewed by local police. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Attorney General’s Office haven’t released findings yet, but say all parties connected to the case have been identified and no arrests have been announced.

4. Grammy-winning artist Trisha Yearwood coming to Salina (salina.com) — Trisha Yearwood is set to bring her intimate acoustic “The Mirror Tour” to Salina’s Stiefel Theatre on March 12, 2026, with tickets going on sale Dec. 12. Local fans can expect a stripped-down evening of stories, new songs from her latest album, and classic hits in a close-up setting right in downtown Salina.

5. As football returned to Lawrence, the city posted some of the best sales tax growth in the state (ljworld.com) — State sales tax data show Lawrence leading Kansas’ recent retail growth, with Salina’s sales up modestly—0.6% for the key September–October period and 4.0% year-to-date. While KU football’s return boosted Lawrence, the report lets Salina residents compare how their city’s economy stacks up against other major Kansas markets.
