1. PREP – Winter Week 3 Schedule/Scores (ksal.com) — Salina sports fans have a full week ahead, with Salina South and Salina Central basketball and wrestling teams hitting the road early before hosting crosstown AVCTL matchups on Thursday. The schedule also highlights SE of Saline, Sacred Heart, Ell-Saline, and other area schools in basketball and wrestling tournaments through Saturday, giving local families plenty of chances to support their teams.
   

2. Salina man with two outstanding warrants arrested for trespassing along the Union Pacific railroad (salinapost.com) — Salina police arrested a 23-year-old local man with two outstanding Saline County warrants after finding him walking along the Union Pacific tracks near Bishop Street, where trespassing is prohibited. Officers say they also found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, leading to additional drug and trespassing charges. A woman with him was cited and released at the scene.
   

3. Library Finances Show Heavy Reliance on Property Taxes; Bank Required to Secure 102% of Funds (salina311.com) — If you rely on the Salina Public Library, most of its budget comes from local property taxes, not sales tax. Library funds kept at Sunflower Bank must be backed by 102% collateral, giving extra protection to taxpayer dollars as the board plans for 2026.
   

4. Salina City Commission to Hold Special Meeting Tuesday to Discuss Cozy Inn Legal Case in Executive Session (salina311.com) — Salina residents should know city commissioners are holding a special meeting Tuesday afternoon to receive confidential legal advice on the Cozy Inn vs. City of Salina case. The session will be mostly closed, but the public can watch the open portions in person or via Zoom, phone, or YouTube, and any official action must occur in public afterward.
   

5. Faulty wiring to blame for Saline County house fire (salinapost.com) — A Saline County family safely escaped a house fire on North Halstead Road after spotting a glowing light fixture wire and calling for help from Rural Fire Districts 3 and 7 and the Salina Fire Department EMS. Investigators say faulty wiring in the under-renovation home caused about $5,000 in attic and ceiling damage, but quick evacuation kept the situation from becoming much worse.
