Stream advisory rescinded for Haysville floodway (ksn.com) — If you use the Mitch Mitchell Floodway near Haysville, state officials say the water is now safe again for swimming and livestock after a sewer overflow earlier this month. KDHE has lifted its stream advisory for the Wichita-area stretch following testing that shows bacteria and contaminants are back to normal levels.
   

2. Wichita man sentenced for destroying historic cannon stolen from war memorial (kansas.com) — A Wichita man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison and ordered to pay substantial restitution for stealing and destroying a historic Spanish-American War cannon from Central Riverside Park. The 800‑pound teal-colored cannon, gifted to the city in 1901 and once a memorial centerpiece, was cut apart for scrap after being dragged from the park, according to Wichita police.
   

3. Man sentenced for drug-fueled motel shooting that killed Wichita couple (kansas.com) — A Sedgwick County judge has sentenced a 22-year-old Wichita man to more than 56 years in prison for fatally shooting a Wichita couple during a drug-fueled dispute at an east Kellogg motel in 2024. Prosecutors say the man, who entered an Alford plea, had been living and dealing drugs with the couple at the Blue Way Inn & Suites when the argument turned deadly, also injuring two others but leaving a toddler unharmed.
   

4. Wichita prepares for FIFA World Cup 2026 tourism surge (ksn.com) — Wichita businesses are being urged to gear up now for a potential tourism boost as soccer fans travel between World Cup host cities Dallas and Kansas City in 2026. The Kansas Small Business Development Center at Wichita State has released a playbook to help local owners prepare, while Visit Wichita plans extra marketing to entice travelers to stop, eat, explore attractions, and stay overnight.
   

5. College graduates in Wichita preparing to enter a struggling job market (kwch.com) — New Wichita college graduates, including a 2025 Wichita State University alum, are finding that landing an entry-level job is tougher than expected this year. One grad describes months of unanswered applications, lingering in a temp role, and mounting anxiety before finally starting to see job offers, reflecting a tighter job market for the class of 2025.
