Here are the top three stories today in Bowling Green:
- Two U.S. Army helicopters from Fort Campbell crashed during a routine training mission an hour and a half way from Bowling Green in Trigg County, resulting in the deaths of nine soldiers who were all members of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. The cause of the collision between the HH60 Black Hawk helicopters is currently under investigation. Brig. Gen. John Lubas and Governor Andy Beshear spoke about the incident at a briefing, with Beshear describing it as a tragic day for Kentucky and offering condolences to the soldiers' families. (WNKY)
- The Kentucky Science Center is considering expanding to Bowling Green and recently hosted a board meeting at Gatton Academy to gauge community interest. CEO Mike Norman has visited the city ten times over the last six months to determine whether it makes sense for the center to establish a branch there and said he hopes to deepen the center's impact in the area. While no plans for expansion have been finalized, both Norman and Bowling Green leaders are hopeful for a partnership in the future. (MSN)
- Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear signed House Bill 540 into law on Mar. 24, which will allow private schools in the state to have a school resource officer. This comes after a shooting took place in a Nashville school earlier this week, prompting calls for action regarding gun violence and children's safety. SROs are seen as crucial in crisis response and can provide a sense of safety for students and staff. (WBKO)
