Here are the top four stories in Bowling Green today:

  1. The Bowling Green Hot Rods started strong in their game against the Hickory Crawdads, with Dru Baker and Nick Schnell driving in three runs in the first inning. However, the Crawdads rallied back and took the lead, ultimately winning 5-3. The game featured several walks and hits, with Leury Tejada getting the win for Hickory, and Michael Brewer getting the save. (WBKO)
  2. A Monroe County Constable and six other residents of Monroe and Barren counties have been indicted for violating election laws in Kentucky. The 40-count indictment was returned by a Monroe County Grand Jury following a tip to the Kentucky Attorney General's Office about the violations during the 2022 primary election. Charges include engaging in organized crime, perjury, making or receiving expenditures for voting, and wrongful registration. (WBKO)
  3. The Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center (BRACAC) recognized Det. Jess Parry, mental health counselor Lauren Kummer, and victim advocate Jodi Chambers for their efforts in combating child abuse. The BRACAC is calling on the community to raise awareness about the issue and educate children on how to keep themselves safe. Heather Stockstill, the lead child advocate at the BRACAC, emphasized the responsibility of the community in keeping children safe from abuse. (wnky.com)
  4. Lindsay Tate Porter, an attorney at ELPO Law, has been appointed as the Second District Representative for the Kentucky Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division (YLD). The YLD, which is open to Kentucky Bar Association members aged 40 or under and those who have practiced law for 10 years or less, is dedicated to community service projects. Porter's expertise in employment and education law, real estate, and family law will help her effectively serve the Second District. (The Lane Report)

  • Kentucky defensive-back Vito Tisdale is transferring to the University of Colorado, according to his social media announcement. He will join head coach Deion Sanders and other new players in 2023. Tisdale previously played for the University of Kentucky for two seasons, but missed the entire 2022 season due to an ACL injury and was dismissed from the football team in 2023. (WYMT)
  • Katie Isenbarger, a Western Kentucky University (WKU) athlete, won the women's high jump at the Indiana Invitational with a height of 1.81 meters, beating out 19 competitors, including those from Power 5 schools. The WKU men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Steven Simmons, Demetrius Rolle, Gabriel Dozier, and Julian Klenner, also won with a time of 41.24 seconds, and WKU had several other strong individual performances at the meet.   • The Wild Bird and Nature Shop is hosting an Herb Festival from Apr. 26 to May 6. Visitors will find a variety of herbs, perennials, and plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies to their garden. The festival will take place at 901 Lehman Ave. in Bowling Green. (WBKO)
