Paducah Payroll Vault owners Deb and Phil Domke are the ultimate small business heroes. To celebrate Small Business Month, the local couple chose to use their small business to shine the light on other local small businesses by doing a surprise Small Business Giveback for one week in May. They also hosted a Small Business Friday Night Food & Tunes event at a local business that was affected by the tornadoes.

The Domke’s made surprise deliveries of local gift baskets to Marion Clark’s True Value, MJ Wealth Management, Cute as a Button, The Joint BBQ, Wings & More, and Holiday Hills Resort – just their way of saying, "Thank you" for what these small businesses do for the community.

“Being a small business owner is perhaps one of the toughest jobs, but it’s also one of the most rewarding. Running a small business requires sacrifice, determination, and resilience, including long hours and many administrative burdens,” said Deb Domke. “We know small businesses are the cornerstone of the American economy and we are so proud to be part of this family. We just want to show the love to other small business owners in our community.”

The entrepreneurs of our country bring new ideas to life, serve our communities, and grow our economy. In fact, small businesses make up 99% of all businesses in the country!

By the numbers: How Small Business Contributes to the Economy

  • The U.S. has 32.5 million small businesses (less than 500 employees)
  • 99.9% of all U.S. businesses are small businesses
  • Small businesses account for 44% of US economic activity

Like many others, the Domke’s are living the American dream by running their own small business which offers payroll and work management services to local businesses, so the owners can focus on building their business, not getting bogged down in administrative paperwork.

“We strive each day to create a company culture that utilizes our skills and knowledge to help others build their businesses. We feel the workforce solutions that Payroll Vault offers coupled with the personalized service we give our clients on a local level is a perfect recipe for the support that small businesses need,” said Domke.

Part of that is supporting the local small business community. Payroll Vault recently partnered with Lake Barkley Chamber of Commerce to host a Small Business Friday Night Food & Tunes Outdoor Expo at the Holiday Hills Resort in Eddyville.

Holiday Hills Resort was completely devastated by the December 2021 tornado that ripped through Western Kentucky destroying and has recently reopened with 48% of its camper-owners being small business owners themselves. Small business owners gathered for a fun-filled Friday night on the lake with live music and food trucks and had a chance to set up a booth and connect with other small business owners and promote their services.

The Domke’s support of small businesses with their Small Business Giveback week is what makes the Paducah community a great place to live, highlights the importance of saying, “Thank You,” and shows how a little kindness goes a long way!
