AACPS' FY 2023 Budget Adoption Process Will Begin Next Week

On Wednesday, Superintendent George Arlotto will present his recommended fiscal year 2023 budget. It's the first step in a lengthy process.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — At a Board of Education of Anne Arundel County meeting next week, Superintendent Dr. George Arlotto will present his recommended fiscal year 2023 budget — the first of several steps in finalizing the school system's finances.

The meeting, open to the public, will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Board Room at the Parham Building (2644 Riva Road in Annapolis). Masks will be required.

Though Arlotto will make recommendations for the school system's operating and capital budgets — which will chart its spending for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022 — a final plan won't be adopted for months.

After his recommendation is released, the Board will hold two public hearings and a public workshop. Then, upon completion of the three meetings, it will adopt a budget request and submit it to County Executive Steuart Pittman in February, who will then make a proposal.

Pittman's proposal will be considered by the County Council, which will adopt a final budget.

The operating budget will allocate funding within state-established categories, and the capital budget will prescribe funding for school construction projects in June, officials said.

One public hearing will take place on Jan. 4 at Old Mill High School, and the other will be on Jan. 6 in the Board Room at the Parham Building in Annapolis. Both will start at 6 p.m.

The public workshop will be on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at the Parham Building.

Arlotto's full Fiscal Year 2023 operating and capital budget recommendations, as well as a text of his budget address and a Budget in Brief document, will be available here beginning Dec. 16.
