Annapolis Mayor's Race Too Close to Call: Candidates Awaiting Complete Results

With one broken voting machine and more than 300 absentee votes unaccounted for, neither candidate was willing to concede the mayoral race.

Updated (1:09 a.m.)—As the last precinct reported its results Tuesday night, mayoral challenger Mike Pantelides led Mayor Josh Cohen by a margin of 84 votes.

But it's still too close to call—more than 300 absentee votes are still unaccounted for. Neither candidate was willing to concede the race with such a variable still in play.

Candidates and voters may have to wait until Thursday when absentee votes are counted, to know the full results.

As the campaign headquarters for Cohen wound down, he said he was confident the absentee provision ballots would squeak out a victory for him. Despite the close margin in a number of wards, Cohen said he wouldn't have handled his campaign differently.

"I have no regrets about the campaign we ran," he said. "But I have to give Mike credit, because whoever wins on Thursday, he ran a great campaign."

The aldermanic races in the 2013 Annapolis City Election concluded with every incumbent winning his or her seats back, according to unofficial results posted to the City of Annapolis' website.
