Annapolis Police To Collect Unwanted Prescription Medication

The department is participating in the National Take Back Initiative, which is scheduled for April 28.

The has a solution for those who have accumulated unused prescription medication.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 28, residents are invited to dispose their medication at the department's lobby as part of the fourth National Take Back Initiative, according to an email from Annapolis Police. The disposal process is anonymous and participants can remove identifying labels from containers.

The email further states that liquid medication should be in a sealed container to prevent leakage. Needles of injectibles will not be accepted but other types of medication—controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter—will be.

There were 5,327 sites nationwide that participated in the 2011 National Take Back Initiative, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency website. The event collected 377,086 pounds of unwanted medication.
