Anne Arundel Presidential Election Results: Who Is Winning?

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) will win Maryland's 10 Electoral College votes, the Associated Press projects. Despite this, President Donald Trump (R) still has quite a few supporters in the state.

Maryland's population hubs, however, usually vote for the Democratic presidential candidate. Anne Arundel COunty is no exception.

So far, Biden has won 126,142 votes in the county. Trump, on the other hand, has tallied 107,752. That means Biden has secured 52.9 percent of the vote thus far compared to Trump's 45.2 percent.

A total of 111,023 Anne Arundel County residents voted early this year, and 163,766 requested a mail-in ballot. It still isn't clear how many county residents voted on Election Day.

About 983,000 Marylanders went to the polls early, and nearly 1.7 million applied to vote by mail. More than 475,000 voted on Election Day. That brings Maryland's total turnout to around 3.1 million, topping 2016's mark of 2.8 million.

Biden leads the statewide ballot count by a margin of 1,410,978 votes to 809,868. If that pace holds, Biden would walk away with 62.1 percent of the Maryland vote. Trump would capture 35.6 percent.

These results mirror those of the 2016 presidential election, which saw former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton win Maryland but lose the presidency. That year, 60.3 percent of Marylanders voted for Clinton, and 33.9 percent opted for Trump.

It was closer in Anne Arundel County, however. About 48.5 percent voted for Clinton, while another 46.3 percent preferred Trump.

Polls closed Tuesday evening. The Maryland State Board of Elections is still counting mail-in and Election Day ballots.

Maryland had 326 voting centers, but only 278 have reported their Election Day results. The board awaits tallies from 23 of 24 centers in Baltimore City, one of 42 locations in Baltimore County and 24 of 41 polls in Prince George's County.

Election officials expects these vote counts by Thursday evening. They must finish counting all punctual mail-in ballots by Nov. 13.

Though the results are not final, it looks like the Old Line State still prefers Democrats.

Maryland has long been a blue state. It has voted for every Democratic presidential nominee since 1988. George H.W. Bush (R) claimed the state that year on the way to his only term as president.

Of Maryland's 4,109,762 registered active voters, 55.1 percent are Democrats. A quarter are registered Republicans.

Anne Arundel County is slightly less liberal, but its residents still lean left. The Democratic Party claims 43 percent of the county's 405,616 registered active voters. One-third are Republicans.

Marylanders can follow the preliminary vote counts for every race at this link, which will be updated each day at 4:30 p.m. The Board of Elections will only announce winners after it counts every vote.

The presidential race also continues nationally. Several battleground states are still tallying their mail-in ballots, meaning the election could swing either way.
