Bay Bridge Closed Sunday Night after Generator Fire
Traffic was halted in the westbound span of the bridge for about two hours while emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire.

A fire at a construction site beneath the Chesapeake Bay Bridge held up traffic for two hours Sunday night.
A thick cloud of smoke swallowed up the westbound span of the bridge after a fire began at a generator beneath the bridge at about 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. There were no injuries reported.
The generator was near the highest portion of the bridge, about 180 feet above the water, beneath the bridge where painters have set up equipment, according to The Capital-Gazette.
Traffic was backed up for several miles as motorists returned to Annapolis and beyond from weekend events in Ocean City and Delaware.
The westbound span of the bridge was opened at about 8 p.m.
