Birding At Waterfront Park + Paddle Trips With Pup + Women's Mountain Bike Day

It's birding season at a waterfront park off the Chesapeake. Here's how to paddle with your pup. Women's Mountain Bike Day is almost here.

The National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways and Chesapeake Conservancy suggested visiting the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center for some springtime birding. A large bird is pictured above at a different location.

MARYLAND — Spring makes for excellent birding at this Maryland park. We also have some paddling tips for your nautical adventures. Other upcoming events include Women's Mountain Bike Day, an outdoor market and a garden tour.

Patch recently partnered with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from National Park Service Chesapeake Gateways and Chesapeake Conservancy. Here's what Jody Hedeman Couser submitted to help you explore the Chesapeake Bay:

"Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center and Adopt-A-Raptor Program

The CBEC is a preserve located 15 minutes from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Maryland's Eastern Shore. With a variety of habitats, the Center is an excellent place to see an assortment of wintering waterfowl and shorebirds make a strong showing in May and late summer, when hundreds can be seen on Lake Knapp. In all, over 200 species of birds have been recorded. The Center is also home to a variety of non-releasable birds of prey. These rehabilitated raptors have experienced injuries or trauma that has left them unable to fend for themselves in the wild. These raptors are housed in mews with viewing available to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. You can help the Center continue and expand their work with injured raptors by “adopting” a raptor of your choice, including barred owls, great horned owls, red-tailed hawks, or Eastern screech owls.
