Carl Snowden Threatens to Sue 'The Capital'

Carl Snowden, the beleaguered civil rights director for the Maryland Attorney General's Office, implied that he would pursue legal action against The Capital at an Annapolis Housing Authority meeting Tuesday night.

Snowden is also the chairman of the Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners.

The Capital journalist Elisha Sauers writes that Snowden delivered an unexpected 20-minute tirade against the newspaper, which he reportedly accused of providing unfair and inaccurate coverage of him.

"When I see a newspaper recklessly print information without checking the facts … I move aggressively, and I use the courts," Snowden said at the meeting, according to Sauers' article.

Tom Marquardt, editor and publisher of The Capital, told Patch that he was surprised by Snowden's threat. Marquardt said he attempted to contact Snowden on Wednesday morning but has not heard back.

"[Snowden and I] go back," he said. "We had lunch recently."

Marquardt stated the newspaper has made errors in its coverage of Snowden in the past but the mistakes were acknowledged.

"Unless something happened recently that I'm not aware of, I don't know what this is about," he said.

Sauers reported that the civil rights director also lambasted Anne Arundel County spokesman Dave Abrams—a former Capital journalist—for spreading lies about him to the media.

"I have no comment on Carl Snowden and his ridiculous comments," Abrams said to Patch. He gave the exact same quote to Sauers on Wednesday morning. 

Snowden, who was on April 20, has already filed a $20 million lawsuit against for compiling a dossier against him. He is currently on sabbatical from the attorney general's office to pursue these charges.
