City of Annapolis Celebrates Lucy Flade Libby Day

ANNAPOLIS, MD - On Sunday, November 6th, 2016, prior to the Rogers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific performance, the Annapolis Opera Company (AOC) honored Ms. Lucy Flade Libby who served as an army nurse in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Ms. Libby has also been a member of the Annapolis community for over 40 years. 1 North Wealth Management, a financial planning and investment advisory firm, located in Annapolis, was the sponsor for this special tribute to Ms. Libby.

During Ms. Libby’s military service during WWII she served as a nurse on Saipan, responsible for numerous wards and the hospital did not lose a single patient under her watch. Ms. Libby landed on Saipan during the bombing, treated soldiers during the island campaigns, including Iwo Jima and remained there until the war’s end.

According to Karen Swekel, General Manager of the AOC, "Margo Cook, an investment advisor representative of 1North, was instrumental in introducing Ms. Libby to AOC President, Thomas DeKornfeld. Ms. Cook presented Ms. Libby with a proclamation, signed by Mayor Patelides, City of Annapolis, declaring November 6th, 2016 Lucy Flade Libby Day."
