Expect Traffic on US 50, Rowe, Taylor Friday

Peak congestion is expected between 7-10 a.m.

The U.S. Naval Academy's commencement ceremony Friday morning is expected to snarl traffic surrounding the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Taylor Avenue, police said.

Traffic congestion is expected in Annapolis between 6-10 a.m., according to a police release. Affected roads include U.S. Route 50, Rowe Boulevard, Farragut Road, Taylor Avenue, Cedar Park Road, Annapolis Street, and Maryland Route 450.  However, other the roads in the area may also be affected.

"Traffic congestion is expected to start at 6 a.m. to peak between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. There may also be congestion after 1pm when the ceremony ends," according to the release.

In addition to the congestion normally associated with the academy's graduation ceremonies, additional traffic could be added to the mix as a result of a visit by President Barack Obama to Annapolis.

Obama is scheduled to be the speaker at the graduation. The U.S. president also spoke during the academy's 2009 graduation. A video of his speech is available on YouTube.
