Flood Watch Issued With More Severe Storms In MD Forecast

Another batch of thunderstorms could swarm Maryland Monday, bringing another chance of flash flooding. The system could dump up to 6 inches of rain on isolated areas.

Most of Maryland is under a flood watch from 2 p.m. until 11:59 p.m. Monday. The watch covers the entire state, except far western Maryland and the lower Eastern Shore.

"Showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rainfall will move across the area this afternoon and evening," the National Weather Service said in its flood watch. "Rainfall rates up to 2 to 3 inches per hour are possible, which may lead to scattered instances of flash flooding where the heavy rain is slower moving and where multiple rounds of storms occurs. Storm total amounts up to 4 to 6 inches are possible where this occurs."

Most areas are expecting lesser rainfall totals, with the NWS forecasting up to 0.75 inches at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

"Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible," the National Weather Service said. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas."

There's a chance of thunderstorms daily through at least Sunday. Highs are expected to remain in the upper 80s to low 90s until then.
