Free Maryland-Themed Masks Available In Anne Arundel On Tuesday

Want a free Maryland-themed mask? The Department of Health will hand out 5,000 on Tuesday. Here's where you can snag the face covering.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Maryland Department of Health will hand out free masks Tuesday at its coronavirus testing site in Downtown Annapolis. The face coverings will be available, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. until noon. Residents can pick up the maks at the corner of Bladen Street and Calvert Street.

"With COVID-19 cases surging across the country, it is critical that we continue to wear masks indoors and around others," Acting MDH Secretary Dennis Schrader said in a press release. "It is the law, and it will be essential in getting us through this pandemic."

This is the latest event in the #MasksOnMaryland series, an effort encouraging locals to wear a face covering. The Department of Health has distributed more than 60,000 masks since the campaign began in July.

The face coverings will have #MasksOnMaryland logos and other state branding. D&T Industries, an Elkridge personal protective equipment company, made and donated the 5,000 masks.

"D&T Industries is honored to join the State of Maryland in encouraging all residents to wear masks whenever they are indoors or near others," Co-founder Shan Zhong said. "The masks that we are donating today will help Marylanders show pride for their state at the same time that they remind us all of the importance of continuing to wear masks responsibly."

Marylanders can also get a free coronavirus test when they pick up their face covering. Appointments are preferred but not required.

"Even as vaccines become more available in the coming months, we need to continue protecting ourselves and those around us by wearing our masks, washing our hands, and watching our distance," Schrader said.
