Free Ride To BWI: New Route Whisks Passengers From Shopping Hub To Airport

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A new bus route takes passengers from the Annapolis Mall to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Named the BWI Express, the bus also makes intermediate stops in Crownsville and at the Millersville Park & Ride.

At BWI, the bus stops at the Southwest terminal and the international terminal. Both stops are outside the arrival doors on the lower level.

Like all buses operated by Anne Arundel County, this bus is free to ride.

"This service was started as a pilot program," Anne Arundel County Transit Innovation Planner Andrew Diehl told Patch in a Thursday email. "As we expand it over the next few months, we hope to upgrade the signage at each location, increase bus frequency, and install proper luggage racks on the buses."

The hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The mall stop is at the bus shelters across from Jared Jewelers. The Crownsville stop is at the intersection of North Drive and Crownsville Road.

"Overnight parking is only allowed at the Millersville Park & Ride," Diehl said. "The Mall and Crownsville locations should be used for pickups and drop-offs only."

The BWI stop for Southwest arrivals is at the very beginning of the terminal near Door 1. The international arrivals stop is at the very end of the terminal near Door 18.

The Anne Arundel County Office of Transportation announced the new route on Sept. 8.
