Get An Inside Look at the State House Dome

Visitors to the top of the dome have included Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

Not everyone gets to see Annapolis quite like this.

A photographer from The Baltimore Sun was given special access to venture up into the Maryland State House Dome, offering a spectacular view of Annapolis from high above the city.

As Patch previously reported, workers are currently replacing the windows of the old building now, restoring them to their former glory.

The dome, first erected in 1787 remains the largest wooden dome of its kind in the country.

Visitors have included tourists, presidents such as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and foreign leaders, many of whom left their own graffiti inside, carved or drawn onto the cypress wood composing the dome.

Check out all 27 photos of the unique dome at The Baltimore Sun.
