Police Shoot Man Suspected of Stabbing Woman to Death

After being shot by police, a homicide suspect managed to stab his victim one last time, authorities said.

Annapolis Police shot and killed a suspect involved in an overnight homicide on Copeland Street, according to a report.

At 12:21 a.m. Tuesday, police found Ronnesha Simms, 29, lying on the ground screaming after suffering from multiple stab wounds outside her residence in the 1900 block of Copeland Street—Bywater Mutual Homes. One officer arrived at the scene while responding to a report of a man assaulting a woman.

Moments after arriving, the officer saw William Brown, 31, emerge from Simms' residence carrying a knife. Brown approached the officer and the victim, and the officer opened fire.

"The preliminary investigation shows that the suspect advanced on the victim and the officers.  Officers confronted the suspect who was shot and killed," according to a police report.

After being shot, Brown was able to stab the victim one more time, police said.

Both Simms and Brown were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center where they were both pronounced dead, police said. Brown sustained multiple gunshot wounds, the exact number has not yet been reported, according to Annapolis Police Department spokesperson Amy Miguez.

Miguez said police were notified after a citizen who lives nearby saw Brown stabbing Simms and went to help her. At the time, Brown dropped the knife, and then went inside the residence before coming out with another knife. By that time, the first officer had arrived at the scene, Miguez said. A second officer arrived "seconds later," she said.

Miguez said the officer, a 14-year veteran of the department, "did what he had to do," according to all indications.
