Iconic City Hall Artwork Being Moved Back into Chambers

The paintings were removed over the summer, but will be reinstalled soon.

Lively, colorful artwork depicting Annapolis in colonial times was removed from the City Hall chambers in a renovation over the summer, but will be making its way back inside soon.

The artwork wasn't a part of the original plan for the chamber's overhaul, which updated the City Council meeting room with new technology including wireless microphones, a new coat of neutral-colored paint, and streamlined visuals. The renovation was intended to bring the chambers back to where they were about 30 or 40 years ago, said the city's Public Works Director David Jarrell.

But city officials said it's time they were restored.

Speaking with The Baltimore Sun, Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen said people have missed the paintings, but added that without them, the room had "a certain elegance."

A crew is working to remount the paintings now, The Sun reports.
