KKI Fundraiser Takes Cinco De Mayo Twist

Bands on the Bay, an annual fundraiser that benefits the Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center, is scheduled for May 5.

The seventh annual Bands on the Bay fundrasier, which raises money for the Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center at Kennedy Krieger Institute, is celebrating with a Cinco de Mayo theme this year.

The May 5 event at Herrington on the Bay will feature Cinco De Mayo inspired food and drink, live music by the Doug Segree Band and Caribbean steel drum musician Orlando Philips and auctions, according to a news release.

The celebration will run from 5 to 10 p.m., rain or shine, the release states. Bands on the Bay costs $100 at the door or can be purchase online for $75 in advance.

The event is organized in part by the family of Jenna Heck, an Annapolis-area child born with Sturge-Weber Syndrome, which causes health complications such as seizures and glaucoma and is most easily identified by a port wine birthmark on the face, according to the release.
