Limbo: Navy Versus Air Force Match Decision Comes Thursday

Classes at the Naval Academy are still running, just fewer of them. The future for athletic events is less certain, however.

Millions of dollars would be lost if the Navy's midshipmen don't play against the Air Force in a hotly contested match-up this Saturday, according to a Naval Academy spokesman.

Whether the game is played or not hinges on the fate of the federal government closure. On Tuesday, the Department of Defense suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at service academies across the country.

However, U.S. Naval Academy spokesman Commander John Schofield stopped short of saying the Saturday Air Force match was canceled—rather, it has yet to be determined.

A formal announcement of the game's cancelation will be made before noon Thursday, according to NavySports.com.

Naval Academy's Athletics Director Chet Gladchuck said the academy stood to miss out on an estimated $4 million in revenue from the game if it is canceled, according to The Capital.
