Man Fatally Struck While Walking Dog, Rottweiler Euthanized: Annapolis Police

A man was fatally struck while walking his dog, Annapolis police said. His Rottweiler was euthanized after suffering severe injuries.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — An Annapolis man was fatally struck by a minivan while walking his dog on Thanksgiving, police said.

Officers on Tuesday identified the victim as 74-year-old David Chan.

Authorities said the vehicle also hit Chan's dog.

The Rottweiler was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital and ultimately euthanized at the family's request due to its severe injuries, police said.

Officers said the crash happened Thursday around 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of Cedar Park Road and Woodlawn Avenue.

Authorities said the victim had just left his home to walk his dog.

The Annapolis Police Department said the victim was crossing the road in front of his home when he was struck by a Honda Odyssey heading east on Cedar Park Road toward Taylor Avenue.

The Annapolis Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead on the scene, a press release said.

Officers are still investigating.
