MD State House Lockdown: Suspect Arrested After Shots Fired Nearby, Reports Say

The Maryland State House and a neighboring college went on lockdown after shots were fired nearby. Police arrested a suspect, reports said.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A suspect was arrested after Annapolis gunfire sent the nearby Maryland State House complex and St. John's College into lockdown Monday, reports said.

The Maryland Capitol Police announced the lockdown around 6:52 p.m. and lifted it at 7:03 p.m.

Eye On Annapolis captured a screenshot of the now-expired lockdown orders. The Capitol Police cited gunfire on Clay Street, which is steps from the closest government-operated building and blocks from the State House.

The Annapolis Police Department, which has jurisdiction over the surrounding neighborhood, has not released any information on the shots fired. Patch requested more information from city police, but we have not yet heard back. We will update this story if we get a response.

The Baltimore Sun reached out to Nick Cavey, a spokesperson for the Maryland Department of General Services, which runs the Maryland Capital Police.

Cavey told The Sun that the lockdown started around 6:30 p.m., the unidentified suspect was arrested at about 6:50 p.m. and the lockdown ended around 7 p.m.

Capt. Dave Miguez of the Annapolis Police Department told The Sun that the shots were actually fired near West Washington Street and West Street.

Miguez added that nobody was hurt, but property was damaged, The Sun said.
